Write Away!

Write away is designed to prepare students for academic writing that they will face at the high school level. It will also assist in preparing students for the "Grade 10 Literacy Test" that they will be expected to write in order to receive a high school diploma. Often, students are given minimal instruction in writing essays, researching topics, organizing and summarizing ideas with little opportunity to revisit the concepts and apply them to their own writing. This course is designed to provide intermediate and senior students with the skills necessary for success with academic writing in high school, college and university.

Intermediate (2 week programme)
this course will focus on the following:

• Paragraph writing-expository, descriptive, and persuasive
• Essay writing (structure)
• Grammar
• Spelling
• Incorporating the computer as a tool in writing and research

Senior (3 week programme)
This course includes the above and the following:

• Organizing ideas
• Note-taking
• Summary/Precis Writing
• Essay writing (continued with a focus on style enhancement)
• Bibliography
• Academic Research
